Rosen Plevneliev: by saving the Jewish community, the Bulgarian people saved itself

“During World War Two the Bulgarian people proved that the civil society and the ordinary person have the strength to change history and that even the greatest evil may be averted. By saving the Jewish community 70 years ago, the Bulgarian people saved itself”. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said at the gala evening in Washington that commemorated 100 years since the establishment of the the Anti-Defamation League. The Bulgarian head of state was an honorary guest at the event and was presented by the national director of the League Abraham Foxman.

Support for the policy of diversification of the energy sources, energy efficiency and liberalization of the energy market was expressed yesterday at a meeting between President Rosen Plevneliev and the Board of the American Atlantic Council in Washington, which took place late last night. The head of state debated the situation in Bulgaria in the past months together with representatives of the Atlantic Council.

From 29 April to 1 May President Rosen Plevneliev will be on a working visit in the United States to take part in commemorating 100 years since the establishment of the Anti-Defamation League. The participation of the president in the anniversary is part of the program for commemorating 70 years of the Bulgarian people's feat and the salvation of the Bulgarian Jewish community during World War Two.

The citizens’ protests in Bulgaria should remind politicians about the promises they have made but failed to keep. During the past winter the citizens protested not only against the soaring electricity bills, but also against the monopolies, the lack of justice and economic prospects. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said in a lecture he delivered titled “Sustainability of the policy and policies of Southeastern Europe.”
