President Rosen Plevneliev received congratulations from His Beatitude Patriarch Maxim and from Pope Benedict XVI, head of the Roman Catholic Church, on the occasion of Bulgaria’s national holiday, March 3.
“As we once again congratulate you on the occasion of your having assumed office as President of the Republic of Bulgaria, in the name of the Holy Synod and in our own name personally, we welcome with you the Fatherland’s National Day, March 3, the Day of Bulgaria’s liberation from Ottoman rule,” Patriarch Maxim said in a letter to the Head of State.

On Bulgaria’s national holiday of March 3, President Rosen Plevneliev received congratulations from heads of state and heads of international organizations, including UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, US President Barack Obama and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

Israel has the potential to increase the amount of its direct investments in Bulgaria, according to President Rosen Plevneliev, who met today with the Foreign Minister of Israel Avigdor Lieberman, who is visiting Bulgaria. Rosen Plevneliev and Avigdor Lieberman reviewed bilateral co-operation and highlighted the existing traditional relations of trust and strategic partnership between Bulgaria and Israel. The rescue of Bulgarian Jews during World War 2 is a historical fact, which has shaped the nature of contemporary relations between Bulgaria and Israel.

Bulgaria was at its strongest when the rulers were educated and the people enlightened, developing a strong spirituality, literature and culture. This was said by Vice President Margarita Popova in a speech to participants and guests at the celebration “Bulgaria: State of Spirit and Literature”, which was held in the European Parliament in Brussels under the patronage of President Rosen Plevneliev.
