I am shocked and appalled by what happened at the airport in Sarafovo. I condemn all forms and terrorism and violence, which are incomprehensible and completely unacceptable to us. Bulgaria is a country where for centuries many ethnicities and religions have co-existed peacefully and in which tolerance is a fundamental value of society. This makes our shock at what happened even greater and our determination to prevent similar incidents in the future even firmer.

In a telephone conversation with Israeli head of state Shimon Peres, President Rosen Plevneliev expressed condolences on the deaths of the Israeli civilians killed in the terrorist attack at Sarafovo airport. Bulgaria will make every effort for those guilty of the tragedy to be fairly punished, President Plevneliev underlined.

All institutions, with the support of the Presidency, should consolidate their efforts to continue reforms in justice and home affairs. “The big theme today is that the country is in the process of selecting a new Supreme Judicial Council and I will follow this process closely, every day, in the interests of citizens and civil society,” President Rosen Plevneliev told journalists in Sozopol.
