Achieving peace in the region is key to connectivity and multilateral economic cooperation in the Black Sea. This is what President Rumen Radev said at a meeting today with the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), Asaf Hajiyev, who is visiting Bulgaria. PABSEC is the parliamentary dimension of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organisation, of which our country is a founding member. 

 

Rumen Radev and Asaf Hajiyev noted the strategic importance of the Black Sea as a bridge between Europe and Asia for the development of transport and energy connectivity. In this regard, the Head of State highlighted our country's place as a reliable factor for diversification of the sources and routes for the transmission of energy resources through the gas interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria. They also discussed the prospects for the implementation of other energy projects in the region, which will contribute to deepening connectivity.     

 

The PABSEC Secretary General highly appreciated Bulgaria's role as an active member of the Assembly and in the implementation of the common priorities. The assumption of the rotating presidency of PABSEC by the Bulgarian Parliament in the period July - December this year was also discussed during the talks. Taking advantage of their geostrategic position, Bulgaria and Georgia have the potential to deepen their connectivity in various areas such as transport, energy, and the digital sector, which will contribute to promoting the economy, investment, and prosperity in the Black Sea region. This was stated by President Rumen Radev, who held a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili.

The two were unanimous that restoring peace in Europe through diplomacy is a priority for the EU and the only way to ensure the long-term security and stability of the Old Continent.

The President recalls that the institution of the Special Commercial Administrator (SCA) was introduced by an Act adopted in 2023, which also established a number of safeguards against potential abuse and arbitrariness — safeguards of the kind already adopted in other European states faced with similar circumstances, with the objective of minimising the risk of subsequent financial claims against the State
