President Radev Addresses Students at the Diplomatic Academy in Hanoi: Mutual Trust Is the Greatest Asset in International Relations

2024-11-26 08:58:00

Historically in our bilateral relations, both the Bulgarian and Vietnamese people have proven their belief in freedom and respect for solidarity and friendship, and these shared values are key to the development of cooperation and trust between our two countries. This is what President Rumen Radev, who visited the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam in Hanoi today, said. The Head of State met with the management of the educational institution and spoke to students about the prospects for the development of bilateral ties between Bulgaria and Vietnam in the context of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The President told the future diplomats that trust between nations based on shared values is important for building stable and sustainable inter-state cooperation, and this is the greatest asset of diplomacy. Historical ties also contribute in this direction, Radev added and gave a brief overview of the 75-year history of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Vietnam. The Head of State said that over this period of time bilateral relations have proved the friendship, mutual trust and solidarity between the two peoples. Bulgaria was one of the first countries to recognise Vietnam's independence in 1950, and in a difficult period of history our country has provided support to the Vietnamese people. The tens of thousands of Vietnamese nationals who have studied and worked in Bulgaria have also contributed to fostering bilateral relations and trust.

The President highlighted the economic cooperation as an important factor for building bilateral relations. We can couple Vietnam's progress and stable economic growth with the achievements of Bulgaria's digital and innovative sector, the President said. He pointed out that partnerships in the development of software for automotive systems, satellite communications, artificial intelligence and other modern technologies are promising.

Bulgaria and Vietnam have an extremely constructive role in strengthening the stability, security and progress of their regions, the Head of State further told the future diplomats. Rumen Radev added that our countries will continue their cooperation in international formats to support global peace and security, promote social and economic development and address contemporary threats and challenges.

Diplomacy is not just a profession, but a vocation - it is the strongest and most effective tool for defending and protecting the interests of each country, Radev told the young people. In his view, the role of diplomacy will be increasingly strengthened. History has shown that bad diplomatic decisions have led to wars, poverty and suffering, and wise diplomacy prevents military conflicts and strengthens peace and stability, Rumen Radev told the students, adding that to be a professional in this field, one needs extensive knowledge and skills.

Later in the day, President Radev held a meeting with Le Tien Chau, secretary of the party committee of Haiphong city. During the talks, investment opportunities were presented in the Vietnamese city, which is a key national and international logistics centre.
