Rumen Radev: Each Book Brings Significant Spirituality and Emotionality When Read in the Author’s Native Language

The Head of State supported the Send a Bulgarian Book to Macedonia Initiative by donating the tetralogy of the great Bulgarian author Dimitar Talev

The power of the European Union lies not only in the free movement of people, goods, services and capital, but mostly in the free exchange of ideas, spirituality and culture. I hope the State leadership of the Republic of North Macedonia, which so energetically demonstrates its aspiration for accession to the European Union will be led by the founding principles of the Community and will be ever more open and tolerant to our common historical and cultural heritage, stated President Rumen Radev at a meeting today at the Presidency with Viktor Stoyanov, creator of the Send a Bulgarian Book to Macedonia civil initiative.

Send a Bulgarian Book to Macedonia encourages book donations to our compatriots in the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as to citizens in the country interested in the achievements of Bulgarian literature. Language is what brings people together and unites them, and books are its strongest bearer, said Mr. Rumen Radev and further added that “a Bulgarian book is at home in the land of Saint Clement of Ohrid and the Miladinov Brothers.”

The Head of State supported the patriotic initiative of Viktor Stoyanov and the Iron Candlestick, the Bells of Prespa, Ilinden and I Hear Your Voices tetralogy of the great Bulgarian author from Prilep, Dimitar Talev. “Every book bears significant spirituality and emotionality when read in the author’s native language, without forging nor falsifications,” the President emphasised. The President further urged that the persecution of Bulgarian books, spirituality and culture in the Republic of North Macedonia must irrevocably remain in the totalitarian past in the name of our common European future.

The Presidential institution is ready to be patron to Native Speech, an active campaign of donating books for our compatriots in the Republic of North Macedonia on the occasion of the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and of Slavic Literature – the 24th of May, stated the President.

Viktor Stoyanov thanked the Presidential institution for the support and stressed that the initiative aims at strengthening the spiritual connection and culturally unifying people on both sides of the border. Interest in Bulgarian culture in the Republic of North Macedonia is immense and it cannot be restrained, he said, and further added that compatriots in Europe, USA and Canada are also greatly interested in donating books for compatriots in our Southwestern neighbour.
