Natural gas should not be a weapon, but a commodity freely traded at market prices. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said at a news conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko.
The Head of State pointed out that in 2009 our country was hit by a gas crisis and currently Bulgaria is working hard to ensure diversification. “Although we are not against Russia, we buy Russian gas and would like to continue doing that calmly, we are against the lack of a long-term perspective and the lack of market prices, the President said. Bulgaria and Ukraine rely on a correct attitude, on predictable, stable and long-term gas supplies, the Bulgarian Head of State said. The President was adamant that economic logic, not politics should prevail in the energy sector.
Rosen Plevneliev pointed out that the Third EU Liberalization Package serves the people’s and companies’ interests and gives Europe the chance to ensure competitive prices and a free market. Natural gas should be freely traded at the markets, not be an instrument for destabilization, the Bulgarian Head of State called on for.
