2015-03-13 14:49:00

By the end of the year the Bulgarian and Serbian governments plan to hold their first joint meeting, after which a visit of the two presidents to the regions with compact Bulgarian population will be prepared. This will be a clear sign that Bulgaria and Serbia will pool efforts to guarantee the constitutional rights of the national minority in Serbia and the compliance with all constitutional obligations, the Head of State Rosen Plevneliev said at a meeting in Belgrade with representatives of the Bulgarian national minority in the Republic of Serbia.

“The problems our national minority is facing were clearly presented at the talks held in Belgrade and they can be solved only if the two countries put joint efforts into solving them,” President Plevneliev said and emphasized that Serbia has voiced its political will to resolve the issues related to the Bulgarian minority.

The Serbian political leadership assured Rosen Plevneliev that the textbooks for the Bulgarian community have already been printed. Serbia has also assumed the commitment to resolve the issue concerning the fact that the Bulgarian Fraternity newspaper is no longer published. “We showed a sincere and honest attitude and a clear political will to solve the problems,” the Head of State said.

The President called on the Bulgarian national minority to be more united so that the Bulgarian state can be more beneficial to our compatriots. Serbia highly appreciates Bulgaria’s pragmatic and loyal position, as well as our willingness for cooperation in compliance with the European values and norms, the President further added at the meeting he held with representatives of the Bulgarian national minority.

The meeting with our compatriots in Belgrade marked the end of the Head of State’s two-day visit to the Republic of Serbia.
