The President: Bulgaria is an Example of How the Engine of European Integration Works

2015-02-25 19:06:00
Bulgaria is an example of the positive impact European integration has on the economic development, the stability of the institutions and the strengthening of the principles of democracy and rule of law. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said at a meeting he held with David Usupashvili, chairperson of Georgia’s parliament, who is paying an official visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of the chairperson of the National Assembly.

The Head of State emphasized that Bulgaria is one of the first EU member states which ratified the EU- Georgia Association Agreement and voiced hope that it will also be ratified by all 28 member states until the Eastern Partnership summit is held in May 2015. Georgia may be a remarkable example of the democratic development of the Caucuses region since the country is persistently making efforts to ensure its integration in the Euro-Atlantic structures.

President Rosen Plevneliev and David Usupashvili were unanimous that Georgia’s EU Association Agreement will give a new impetus to the European integration of the Caucuses country and will contribute to the stability in the Black Sea region.

The President and the Chairperson of Georgia’s parliament outlined the opportunities for the two countries’ cooperation in the trade and investment sectors, in the spheres of energy security and the diversification of the sources and routes of natural gas to Bulgaria and to Europe as well as in improving the transport connections between the countries in the Black Sea region. Bulgaria relies on Georgia’s active support for ensuring the transit of gas from Azerbaijan to Europe.

Our country is among Georgia’s ten biggest trade partners. At the meeting it was further emphasized that the two countries also have a considerable potential for cooperation in the agriculture and tourist sectors.
