The European prospects for the Western Balkan countries have no alternative and the European Union should continue to support their efforts for becoming full EU member states. This was the common opinion shared by the Presidents of Bulgaria and Albania Rosen Plevneliev and Bujar Nishani, who held talks today at 2 Dondukov street. The Albanian Head of State is in Bulgaria to attend the commemoration service in memory of Zhelyu Zhelev, President (1990-1997) of Bulgaria.
Dr. Zhelev’s death is a loss for the whole region. However, with his deeds and the example he set, he proved that cooperation in the Balkans can be based on real friendship and partnership, the two presidents pointed out.
“Albania’s EU accession is one of our main priorities and it is important for us to know that we can always rely on the help of real friends such as Bulgaria,” President Nishani said. “As an EU member state, Bulgaria is focused on and is working to ensure European prospects for the Western Balkan countries,” the Bulgarian Head of State emphasized.
President Plevneliev reiterated our country’s readiness to cooperate with the Republic of Albania more actively on all levels. In 2015 President Bujar Nishani will pay an official visit to Bulgaria. During the visit, a business forum to be attended by representatives of the Bulgarian and Albanian business circles is planned.
