President Rosen Plevneliev today met the President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikoli?. The Bulgarian Head of State was attending the meeting of Heads of States Parties to the Process of Co-operation in South East Europe (SEECP), held in Belgrade.

During the meeting, President Nikoli? briefed President Plevneliev on the economic situation in Serbia and the measures taken by the Serbian authorities to stabilize the national economy. President Plevneliev said that active economic co-operation between countries of the region is essential for overcoming the negative effects of the global financial crisis.

President Plevneliev confirmed Bulgaria’s support for the European perspective of Serbia becoming reality and welcomed the concrete steps in this direction.

Presidents Plevneliev and Nikoli? believe that the Bulgarian minority in Serbia should be a bridge for the development of friendly relations between the two countries.

In Sofia Tech Park, Bulgaria will have its first innovation ecosystem to support innovation and entrepreneurship

Sofia Tech Park is no less important than the construction of Trakiya motorway because it paves the way for innovation and the creation of Bulgaria's first innovation ecosystem to support innovation and entrepreneurship, President Rosen Plevneliev said today. He visited the site at 111 Tsarigradsko Chaussee in the capital where construction of the Sofia Tech Project is to begin. This is the first time in 30 years that such a good platform is well-supported financially, the President said.

The first stage of Sofia Tech Park will accelerate innovation in one of the top seven clusters in Bulgaria, information and communication technology. The success of this first stage depends on the quality concept, innovation ecosystem, which sets out the roles of each participant, including the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, universities, businesses and municipalities in the country, the President said.

The Ministry of Defence will make available 270 decares to the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism for the technology park. The Sofia Tech Park company has already been registered with an initial capital of three million leva. The first phase of the project will be financed with 50 million under the Competitiveness Operational Programme, and the funds have already been provided. The building of infrastructure related to the park and the first buildings is to begin. In preparation and implementation of this phase of the project, partners among academics and business will be sought. By the end of 2015, the first phase of the park, where the first of the companies will operate, is to be operational.
