Bulgaria and Egypt will work on further cooperation by means of joint projects

2014-09-24 11:43:00
Bulgaria and Egypt will strengthen their bilateral cooperation by means of effectuating more joint projects. This is the position embraced by President Plevneliev and the President of Egypt  Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who held talks at UN Headquarters. It was underscored at the meeting that the two countries share a common vision regarding the necessity for modernization and attracting more investments in key sectors, such as  the management of water resources, transport infrastructure and energy development.

“Legislative changes are underway in Egypt which will create an exceptionally favourable environment conducive to various business projects”, stated Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. According to Rosen Plevneliev, given its experience Bulgaria can assist in developing Egypt’s transport and energy systems. “We dispose of an expert potential in all sectors of energy development – atomic energy, hydropower, renewable energy, and can offer the best correlation between price and quality”, underscored Rosen Plevneliev. The Head of State pointed out the possibility for Egypt to make investments in Bulgarian agriculture and food exports.

The President expressed the support of the country for the democratic changes in Northern Africa and the Middle East. Rosen Plevneliev emphasised the contribution of the Bulgarian School for Politics and the “Sofia Platform” forum for sharing Bulgaria’s experience through the transition years, as well as the role of a strong civil society for enforcing the rule of law. President Plevneliev noted Egypt’s progress in fulfilling the requirements of the road map for transition to democratic rule and called for a successful holding of the coming parliamentary elections.

Bulgaria highly values Egypt’s stabilizing role in the Middle East and Northern Africa, said at the meeting the Bulgarian Head of State. The President welcomed Egypt’s efforts for facilitating the dialogue between the country of Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which strive to contribute towards finding a fair and permanent solution in the Middle East peace process. Owing to Egypt’s mediation an agreement was reached for a cease-fire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Our country also supports the holding of the coming conference in Cairo, where the possibilities of the recovery of Gaza will be discussed, added Rosen Plevneliev.

The two Presidents expressed the common view that the activities of the Islamic State pose a serious threat for international security and are the reason for the deterioration in the humanitarian situation in the Middle Eastern region. The fight against terrorism is not only a problem of the region itself, and its successful counteraction requires the unified efforts of the international community, was the position expressed by the Heads of State.
