Rosen Plevneliev: The case of the Bulgarian ambassador in Skopje is unacceptable

2012-05-04 17:00:00

President Rosen Plevneliev, together with representatives of municipal government and many guests and residents of the town of Gotse Delchev, attended a service at the city’s cathedral to commemorate the 109th anniversary of the death of Bulgarian revolutionary Gotse Delchev. The President laid a wreath at the monument to the revolutionary.

“Our duty is to remember the words of Gotse Delchev – quitting and splitting should not frighten us. We should all accept these words as a message to contemporary Bulgarians. Vasil Levski is the apostle of freedom throughout our nation, but Gotse Delchev is the apostle of freedom of the Macedonian Bulgarians,” the President told those who came to honour the memory of Gotse Delchev.

The case of the Bulgarian ambassador in Skopje is unacceptable, President Plevneliev told journalists in reaction to the Bulgarian Ambassador in Skopje being prevented from laying wreaths at the monument to Gotse Delchev in the city on the anniversary of Gotse Delchev’s death.

“We welcome and support the membership of any country in the European family. But if someone wants to be a member of this family, they must show it by deeds not just words, just like other countries. Bulgaria will work for Macedonia's accession to the European Union, but in turn the Macedonian people must show us by their deeds that they also support us,” the Bulgarian Head of State said.
