Rosen Plevneliev: All members of the caretaker government will be announced by the deadlines stipulated in the constitution

The difficulties that Bulgaria is currently facing can be overcome by taking measures to secure economic growth and curb unemployment, President Rosen Plevneliev and European Parliament President Martin Shultz emphasized during their meeting in Brussels. The two debated the situation in our country ahead of the forthcoming early general election. “We debated the aspects of the next transition period for Bulgaria until the new general election is held and the formation of a new government by the next 42nd National Assembly. We also commented some aspects of the general election and how to take all measures to guarantee honest and fair elections in a European style,” the head of state said after the meeting with which his working visit to Brussels ended.

“The caretaker cabinet will perform its tasks, as it always did earlier in Bulgarian history,” President Rosen Plevneliev and  Martin Shultz firmly stated in a joint statement. President Plevneliev expressed hope that the election campaign will be a positive one in which the people’s problems will be specified so that solutions are found and clear commitments assumed, “so that the new National Assembly can work on the most important legislation from the very first day it is convened.”

The European Parliament President expressed hopes that the caretaker government would be able to work under conditions of stability. “The President is facing a difficult task, I guarantee the European Parliament’s support in the weeks to come,” Martin Shultz said. “The best government is the one that enjoys the wide support of citizens and a huge majority in parliament as a result of a wide mandate given by the citizens,” Shultz further emphasized.

All members of the caretaker government will be announced by the deadlines stipulated in the constitution, President Plevneliev firmly stated in response to a question asked by the journalists. The head of state said that there are enough specialists in Bulgaria, who can assume responsibility. “I hope they will be given the chance to perform their tasks, as well as any other government will,” the President added.  In his words, the 42nd National Assembly must have the will to form a strong and legitimate “real” government, which should enjoy a strong support and will be ready to conduct reforms and make serious decisions.

The president once again told the media that Bulgarian EU commissioner Kristalina Georgieva will continue to perform the commitments she has taken on in Brussels.
