President Rosen Plevneliev has sent a letter of congratulations to US President Barack Obama, congratulating him on his success in the elections for President of the United States.

“It is my great honour and pleasure to congratulate you on your success in the elections for President of the United States. Allow me to express my conviction that in your next term you will continue to be a decisive leader and convincing as a political manager not only in solving important problems in America, but also in terms of global issues and international relations. I am glad that we will be able to continue and further develop our co-operation during your second term. In the past two decades, relations between our two countries have become an enduring friendship that has grown into a strategic partnership.
Bulgaria rates highly the bilateral political co-operation and partnership with the US in the fields of defence and security, the fight against terrorism and transnational organized crime, and in the sphere of economy and culture,” President Plevneliev said in his letter.

“Strengthening of stability, security, prosperity and democracy in Europe, especially the Balkans, is one of the main objectives in our policy. Our priority is to support the process of Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkans.
We view with pleasure the improving prospects for expanding trade and economic relations, co-operation in investment in key sectors of the Bulgarian economy, in the exchange of youth, education, science and culture. Of critical importance is our co-operation in energy and key issues of energy security and diversification,” President Plevneliev said in his letter of congratulations.

In his letter, President Rosen Plevneliev expressed his hopes that relations between the two countries would further deepen, including through more intensive development of direct relations between citizens of both countries, including expanding opportunities to travel freely.
