Rumen Radev and Mateusz Morawiecki: Effective Tackling of Illegal Migration Requires Neutralisation of Its Guiding Centres

2023-07-06 11:43:00

The fight against illegal migration in the European Union can only be effective with the concerted efforts by the Member States to purposefully neutralise the international network and the centres that direct and finance human trafficking. President Rumen Radev and Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki agreed on this position in a telephone conversation they held today.

The two discussed the forthcoming changes to the Pact on Migration and Asylum, and the protection of the external borders of the European Union. Rumen Radev stressed that frontline countries should be supported in tackling migratory pressures and should strengthen the partnership of their security services with the countries of Central and Western Europe, where the centres directing and financing illegal human trafficking are located. That is why Bulgaria has initiated the establishment of an international operational working group with the assistance of Europol to exchange information in order to neutralise the financial flows underpinning illegal trafficking, Rumen Radev further said. On 26 May this year, President Radev sent letters to a number of leaders of EU member states inviting experts on illegal migration to participate.
