At a meeting held in Amman the Heads of State voiced readiness to strengthen the cooperation and the exchange of good practices in the spheres of defense and security

The excellent political dialogue between Bulgaria and Jordan is a solid basis to build on the bilateral relations in economy, defense and security, science, education and culture. This was the common stance shared by President Rumen Radev and King Abdullah II, who held a meeting today in Amman. The Bulgarian Head of State is on an official visit to Jordan at the invitation of King Abdullah II and the delegation he heads includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva, the chairmen of the Bulgarian Investments Agency  and the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency, and also representatives of tens of Bulgarian companies.

Both Bulgaria and Jordan need a mutually beneficial cooperation and we hope that the active political dialogue will contribute to the development of the ties between the businesses, to increasing the bilateral trade, to a growth of investments and tourism, President Rumen Radev said after the meeting with King Abdullah II. The Head of State also highlighted the encouraging results and the signed memorandums and agreements at the economic forum in Amman held earlier today.

The political situation in the Middle East region and the problem with the migrants and refugees was also discussed at the meeting. Jordan has offered shelter to millions of refugees who reached 1.3 million people only from the latest crisis in Syria. In Rumen Radev’s words, Jordan should be supported by Bulgaria and the EU because it has a real contribution to the fight against illegal migration. “We can imagine what burden this is to the social system, the healthcare system, the financial system. Jordan is successfully fighting terrorism, the illegal trafficking of weapons, which makes it an island of stability we can rely on in the Middle East. This island of stability should be supported,” the President emphasized.

The two Heads of State voiced their readiness to strengthen the cooperation and share good practices in the spheres of defense and security, the exchange of technologies and the creation of joint ventures. President Radev said that our country supports the so-called Arab process, initiated by King Abdullah II to pool international efforts to fight terrorism and radicalization. The focus on the Balkan and EU member states is vital for Bulgaria, the Head of State emphasized. Bulgaria and Jordan will continue to work together in this direction not only in terms of the exchange of information, but also in terms of studying the legal regulation in Jordan to counteract radicalization and the external interference in religious matters.

During his visit, the President also visited the Special Operations Training Center in Jordan. In Rumen Radev’s words, the center is at a high professional level, and Jordan has gained real experience in this sphere, which Bulgaria can take advantage of to develop projects for establishing a similar unit in our country. This is strategically important for every modern country, the President added. “We are not only speaking about  standard training, but also about using and implementing new technologies, which are becoming increasingly more complicated, and their utilization and the training of people are decisive for building contemporary capabilities,” Rumen Radev said.

Earlier President Rumen Radev and his wife Desislava Radeva were welcomed with an official ceremony at the King’s Palace in Amman by King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al- Abdullah. Desislava Radeva visited a social integration center of underprivileged women in the capital of Jordan.
