The Head of State Called on EBRD to Support the Efforts to Achieve a Better Connectivity in Southeast Europe

2016-11-10 17:04:00

At a meeting held in Budapest with Sir Suma Chakrabarti, President of EBRD, Head of State Rosen Plevneliev called on the institution to support the efforts made by the Southeast European countries to achieve a better infrastructure – transport and energy connectivity. “The Balkan countries are united in their willingness to achieve a higher connectivity and attaining this goal will boost the energy security of all countries in the region, will strengthen the cross-border cooperation and will give a new impetus to the process of European integration,” the Bulgarian President emphasized.

Connecting the energy networks of the countries in the region will also make possible the establishment of a regional energy bourse, which will reduce the Balkans’ dependence on the energy resources from only one supplier, the Head of State further said.

In the past years Bulgaria has achieved a lot in the ICT sector and has become a technological leader in Southeast Europe, Suma Chakrabarti said at the meeting. Head of State Rosen Plevneliev was assured that EBRD is ready to strengthen its support for Bulgaria and the region and also to assist our country while preparing for its EU presidency in 2018.
