Bulgaria Relies on Senegal’s Support for the Bulgarian Candidacy for UN Secretary General

President Rosen Plevneliev and the President of the African state Macky Sall discussed at the talks they held in UN headquarters in New York the necessity of strengthening the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Senegal with a focus on the economic ties. Rosen Plevneliev and Macky Sall voiced their support for strengthening the bilateral relations in the education, science and culture sectors, where both countries have long-established traditions, including in the exchange of students.
The two presidents agreed to encourage the exchange of information between the two countries in the trade and economic sector, and also in expanding the cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure, pharmacy, agriculture and food production.
Senegal shows an interest in the Bulgarian experience in the planning and implementation of projects in the water sector, including the construction of a water supply infrastructure. Our country is also ready to share its experience with the African country in the sector of renewable energy sources.
Presidents Plevneliev and Sall voiced their contentment with the good cooperation between Bulgaria and Senegal related to the Bulgarian support for Senegal’s candidacy for a non-permanent UN Security Council member in the period 2016 -2017. The excellent interaction between the two countries within the International Organization of Francophonie, which Bulgaria is an active member of, was also highlighted.
Bulgaria will rely on Senegal’s support for Irina Bokova’s election for UN Secretary General, it also emerged at the talks between Rosen Plevneliev and Macky Sall.
