2015-06-18 09:15:00
In Tbilisi the Head of State Rosen Plevneli?v visited the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia and held talks with the Head of EUMM Kestutis Jankauskas and with Bulgaria observers. “Bulgaria supports a strong presence and mandate of EUMM and will remain committed to and will contribute to the success of the mission, which has no alternative,” the President said at the meeting.

Rosen Plevneliev got acquainted with the activities of EUMM and highlighted its role in the context of the new challenges regional stability and security are facing. In a talk with the Bulgarian observers the President highly appreciated their work and highlighted our country’s commitment to contribute to the international efforts put into finding a peaceful solution of the conflicts in the region, including their participation in an efficient EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia. Bulgaria has been part of the mission since it was launched in 2008 with a contingent of 14 observers out of a total of 250.

Later President Rosen Plevneliev held talks with David Usupashvili, Speaker of Georgian Parliament, and Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili. The Head of State reiterated Bulgaria’s compassion to the casualties and the affected by the catastrophic flooding in Tbilisi and was thanked for Bulgaria’s support by the Georgian side.

Opinions were exchanged on issues related to the regional and international agenda and the necessity to ensure more connectivity in the Black Sea region was emphasized, which is a prerequisite for more stability and security. The traditionally strong cultural and historic ties between the peoples of Georgia and Bulgaria, which date back centuries ago, were highlighted.

The President also outlined our country’s key advantages and the conditions for doing business, as well as the opportunities the Bulgarian companies are seeking to expand their activity.

Currently Bulgaria and Georgia are uncircumventable factors in their regions, they share common values and a common aim to ensure a democratic and European development, President Rosen Plevneliev summarized the results of the political talks held on the first day of his visit to the Caucuses republic. The President is on an official visit to the Republic of Georgia on 17 and 18 June.

Today the Head of State will be in the Georgian port of Batumi, where he will take part as a keynote speaker in the 12 international conference “Georgia’s European Way.”
