The President: We Are Grateful for Real Madrid’s Commitment to the Social Integration of the Underprivileged Children

2014-10-01 12:23:00

We highly appreciate the cooperation with the Real Madrid Foundation and the club’s corporate social responsibility in Bulgaria, President Rosen Plevneliev said, who held a meeting today at 2 Dondukov street with representatives of the leadership of the football club. The Head of State emphasized that the pilot project “Sports schools for social integration,” launched in Vidin and taking place under the auspices of the President and with the support of Real Madrid, is already producing results.

“We highly appreciate the achievements of the Bulgarian athletes, yet equally important is that we should encourage mass sport and make more Bulgarians do sport,” the President emphasized.

Sport does not boil down to reporting results only. The social aspect of sport is also important for Real Madrid, as well as the opportunity to help form the character and personality development of the youths, particularly of underprivileged children, Pedro Lopez Jimenez, vice-president of Real Madrid said at the meeting.  The vice-president of the Spanish club emphasized that the Real Madrid Foundation maintains 200 schools in 70 countries and has the ambition to expand its presence in Bulgaria so as to help the social integration of a greater number of Bulgarian children. 50 children from the football school in Vidin, which was opened with the help of the foundation of the Spanish team, will attend the football match between Ludogoretz and Real Madrid at the Vasil Levski stadium.

“Football in Bulgaria has its heroes, who compete and achieve their successes in the most difficult sports competition,” President Plevneliev further said. The Head of State pointed out that the Bulgarian champion  Ludogoretz has achieved remarkable results in the European championships so far and wished the team success in the match with the world-famous Real Madrid. “I wish the competition will be fair and the better team wins,” Rosen Plevneliev added.

Jose Luis Tapia Vicente, ambassador of Spain to Bulgaria, Sports Minister Evgenia Radanova, Transport Minister Nikolina Angelkova and the owner of FC Ludogoretz Kiril Domuschiev took part in the meeting.
