The Vice-president: setting up an efficient European Prosecutor’s Office will strengthen the European Unionrn

2013-09-24 13:31:00

The debate on establishing a common European Prosecutor’s Office should result in setting up an efficient structure which would strengthen the European Union. Otherwise we risk establishing yet another administration which would not produce results. This is what Vice-president Margarita Popova said. Today at 2 Dondukov Blvd, she held a meeting with Christoph Stroetz, Chief State Prosecutor of the German State of Bavaria, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria. According to the Bulgarian Vice-president, the common European Prosecutor’s Office will play a role in maintaining the financial stability in the EU.

During the meeting Dr. Stroetz informed the Vice-president about the voiced positions and about the results of the talks held so far on setting up a European Prosecutor’s Office. “This project is supported by the majority of EU member states,” Christoph Stroetz emphasized and invited Margarita Popova to take part in an international symposium on this issue, to be held in Germany at the beginning of 2014.

The education and cooperation programs between the Prosecutor Offices and Justice Ministries of Bulgaria and the German State of Bavaria were also discussed during the meeting. The two shared a common position that the results achieved so far are good and that there is a potential for restoring the good practices in the justice sector, which serves the interests of the two countries.
