The Vice-President: The suspicions of illegal use of special surveillance means undermines public trust in the institutions and statehood

2013-04-19 16:36:00

The allegations about the use of special surveillance means undermine public trust in the institutions and statehood. This is what Vice-President Margarita Popova told journalists in Lovech, commenting the suspicions about illegal use of operational technical devices by the specialized unit in the Interior Ministry. “It is good that the Prosecutor’s Office reacted promptly and formed a team which would conduct a probe into the disclosed information,” the Vice-President added.

Margarita Popova recalled that a similar situation triggered checks conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office during former Prosecutor General Nikola Filchev’s term in office. It was then that it established a lot of administrative offences. “I expect that now the Prosecutor’s Office will carry out the check in compliance with the law and propose that responsibility should be sought,” the Vice-President said.

All participants in the election process should take on the commitment to conduct a “tolerant and fair” election campaign, since this impacts Bulgaria’s image not only among the citizens, but also among our partners abroad,  Vice-President Popova further commented, responding to a question raised by journalists.
