Europe’s strength lies in the fact that we can solve the problems together and create a common market with common rules for a democratic and prospering community. This is what Rosen Plevneliev said at the debate titled “What keeps Europe together?” which was held today in Vienna. The European Union is not an “accounting union for the EU funds” and is not simply a common market. “It is a union of values and democratic states which build their future together,” the head of state emphasized at the forum held in Vienna’s Burgtheater.

The difficulties that Bulgaria is currently facing can be overcome by taking measures to secure economic growth and curb unemployment, President Rosen Plevneliev and European Parliament President Martin Shultz emphasized during their meeting in Brussels. President Rosen Plevneliev and the Head of state of Israel Shimon Peres took part in the official ceremony in the European Parliament in Brussels which commemorated the 70th anniversary of the saving of the Bulgarian Jews during World War II. A documentary exhibition under the title of “A difficult choice of great significance: the fate of the Bulgarian Jews” was opened. Two heads of state, Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov, EU commissioner Kristalina Georgieva and MEPs were present at the ceremony.
