President Radev: Improving Connectivity Is Key to Strengthening Security and Stability in the Black Sea Region

2025-11-24 19:08:00

Taking advantage of their geostrategic position, Bulgaria and Georgia have the potential to deepen their connectivity in various areas such as transport, energy, and the digital sector, which will contribute to promoting the economy, investment, and prosperity in the Black Sea region. This was stated by President Rumen Radev, who held a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili. He is in Bulgaria to participate in the 66th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) in Sofia. During the forum, Georgia assumed the rotating presidency of PABSEC for the coming six months.

Rumen Radev and Shalva Papuashvili highlighted the importance of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation as a platform for dialogue to promote security, stability, and prosperity in the wider Black Sea region, for which expanding connectivity is key. In this regard, the Bulgarian head of state highlighted the opportunities for joint projects that are important for Bulgaria and Georgia as countries on both sides of the Black Sea.  Cooperation in this area will contribute to enhancing energy security and diversifying supply routes, Rumen Radev noted, highlighting the importance of the Trans-Caspian international transport route connecting Europe and Asia, as well as the transmission of green energy.

Radev praised Georgia's economic development and noted that the country's European integration is a prerequisite for the subsequent comprehensive deepening of bilateral cooperation with Bulgaria. The two nations also share centuries-old cultural and spiritual ties, as was noted during the meeting.

The Bulgarian head of state expressed our country's unequivocal support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
