The great mission of the Red Cross is not only to provide humanitarian aid in severe crises around the world, but also to continue to be the conscience of humanity. The head of state Rumen Radev called for this during a meeting today with the Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Jagan Chapagain. The meeting was attended by Vice President Iliana Iotova, the Chairman of the Bulgarian Red Cross, Academician Hristo Grigorov, the general director of the organisation Prof Dr Krasimir Gigov, as well as members of the international federation, which together with the Bulgarian Red Cross has 190-member national societies.

Human life is a supreme value, for the protection of which all efforts must be united at the public and international level, said President Radev and highlighted the role of the Red Cross in this regard. There should always be a dialogue, because this is the way to end the military conflicts raging in different parts of the world, the Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies emphasised for his part. The position was also shared that the value of human life is of equal importance in every region of the world and that pain and human suffering should not be treated differently depending on where and by whom it is caused.

The Head of State expressed his gratitude to Jagan Chapagain for the excellent cooperation and support that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies provides to the Bulgarian Red Cross. The largest volunteer organisation is everywhere where crisis events occur and not only saves human lives, but also proves that humanity, compassion and solidarity are fundamental social values, Radev said. The President also stressed the unique importance of the organisation internationally, due to the ability of companies to react even in cases where there are no established legal options for assisting victims.

On his part, General Secretary Jagan Chapagain emphasised the contribution of the Bulgarian Red Cross to the activities of the International Federation. During the conversation, the volunteer activity of the Bulgarian Youth Red Cross and its importance for the inclusion of young people in this country to humanitarian values and principles were highlighted. Key to our society is the investment in the education of young people who voluntarily and with faith in the power of solidarity devote themselves to helping the most vulnerable, stressed President Radev.

Radev and Chapagain discussed the upcoming 34th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, with the Secretary General expressing hope that Bulgaria will be represented at the highest level at the international forum in Geneva.
