The President praised the training of the Bulgarian military at Hohenfels base in Germany

2012-10-19 14:12:00

The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Rosen Plevneliev, and Defence Minister Anyu Angelov today observed Bulgarian military actions in the final stage of training taking place at the multinational joint training centre in Hohenfels base in Germany. The visit marks the end of the Bulgarian Head of State’s visit to Germany.

In 2011, about 600 Bulgarian soldiers underwent training in US schools and training centres, and since the beginning of this year until now their number exceeds 1700, the President said in his address to the military personnel. “This trend should continue, because behind it there is excellent co-operation between Bulgaria and the US, results achieved, mutual benefits and strong financial logic,” President Plevneliev said.

In November, certification of the first Bulgarian battalion battle group will be completed at Novo Selo military facility, it emerged during the visit by the President and the Defence Minister to the training centre.

The joint training at Hohenfels involved forces from the U.S. Army in Europe, soldiers from 12 NATO member states and six observer states.

The Bulgarian side involved 260 soldiers from Army, Air Force and Navy and two Cougar helicopters.
