Head of State: The Memorandum between Bulgargas and the Hungarian MVM CEEnergy Opens an Opportunity for Bulgaria to Participate in the LNG Market for Central and Eastern Europe

2023-09-14 19:43:00

The Memorandum signed today between Bulgargaz and MVM CEEnergy opens the opportunity for Bulgaria to participate in the LNG market for Central and Eastern Europe. This is what President Rumen Radev told journalists today after he held successive meetings in Budapest with Hungarian President Katalin Nowak and Prime Minister Viktor Orban. In the presence of the Bulgarian Head of State and the Hungarian Prime Minister, a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the field of LNG supply and trade was signed between Bulgargas and MVM CEEnergy.

The Head of State recalled that as a result of the pro-European policy of the caretaker government Bulgaria had gained free access to the liquefied gas terminals of Greece and Turkey, as well as to their gas transmission networks, and today this country not only consumes and transits natural gas, but also declares itself an active participant in the liquefied gas market for Central and Eastern Europe.

President Radev stressed that Bulgaria should have the ambition to become an indispensable factor contributing to the security of natural gas supplies and energy diversification of our allies and partners in Europe.

At his meeting with the Bulgarian head of state, Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed his high appreciation for Bulgaria's reliability of natural gas supplies through the Southern Gas Corridor and readiness to further deepen the bilateral partnership. The sides concurred that the importance of the Southern Gas Corridor would continue to grow and further action is needed to increase the capacity to transport natural gas through Bulgaria.
