Rumen Radev: Effective Combat Against Corruption Requires Joint Efforts from Partner States

2021-06-02 17:35:00

Achieving effective results in combatting corruption requires united efforts from partner states, declared President Rumen Radev during a meeting with Paul Ahern, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US Department of the Treasury. The US Ambassador to Bulgaria Hero Mustafa was also present at the meeting held today at the Presidency.

The Head of State noted that Bulgarian society is currently at an important stage in its development and that there are great expectations on behalf of citizens in recovering trust in statehood and more transparency in the work of institutions. Therefore, we want the people in all important positions in governing the country to be open, as well as all magistrates. We want transparency regarding their bank accounts and property, be it here or abroad, emphasised Mr. Rumen Radev.

The President said that investment in transparency and combatting corruption is not only in defence of our national security, but also of economic interests and civil freedoms. Recovering the business environment in Bulgaria depends on decisive measures in this direction.

The position of the necessity of a more active partnership between Bulgaria and the USA in combatting organised crime and corruption and for strengthening rule of law was shared at the meeting.
