Strengthening the partnership with Iran in the spheres of economy and energy is of interest to Bulgaria, Southeastern Europe and the European Union and as President of the Council of the EU Bulgaria will work to promote the political dialogue so as to achieve concrete results of mutual interest. This is what Head of State Rumen Radev said at a meeting with Dr. Mohammad Javad Zarif, Foreign Minister of Iran, held at 2 Dondukov street.

The two shared the opinion that the agreements reached under the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan on the Iranian nuclear program and the fulfillment on the part of Iran of the assumed commitments, create new opportunities for developing the relations between the EU and Tehran, and also the traditionally good ties between Bulgaria and Iran. “We are ready for holding a dialogue to improve the transport connectivity, energy diversification and increase of the mutual investments, tourism and scientific exchange,” President Radev said. The development of the information technologies in Iran and of pharmacy with the use of nanotechnologies also broadens the scope of the potential cooperation with Bulgaria, Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

The organization of joint business and tourist forums which would encourage the contacts between the business circles in the two countries and also relieving the process of issuing visas were identified as an opportunity to boost economic and cultural exchange.

Continuing the international efforts to counteract the terrorist activity of Islamic State and the post-conflict reconstruction of the Middle East region, were also discussed at the meeting. The Iranian foreign minister highlighted the opportunity for Bulgarian construction companies to take part in this process.
