President Rosen Plevneliev: Bulgaria should speed up its preparations to join the Eurozone

2016-09-21 09:46:00

Bulgaria should speed up its preparations to join the Eurozone, otherwise it risks lagging behind in the decision-making process in United Europe. This is what head of state Rosen Plevneliev warned against during his meeting with Jewish organizations.  As a tradition, Plevneliev exchanged views with representatives of Jewish organizations about topical issues on the European and international agenda.

The head of state pointed out that in the wake of Brexit, United Europe needs a new impetus to encourage the process of European integration that would recover the European citizens' trust in the institutions.

President Rosen Plevneliev and the representatives of the Jewish community voiced concerns over the growing populism in Europe and across the world.

The Bulgarian head of state was expressed gratitude for Bulgaria's commitment to the fight against terrorism. The representatives of the Jewish organizations made a high appreciation of the Bulgarian authorities' performance and welcomed the progress in the investigation of the Sarafovo Airport bus bombing of July 2012, which is already being heard in court.

During the meeting Plevneliev outlined Bulgaria's advancement on the ongoing reforms and the modernization of key sectors, as well as aspects of the strategic partnership with the United States and the State of Israel in a number of sectors, such as the energy, security, defence and the fight against terrorism.
