The similarity of positions Bulgaria and Jordan have on topical regional and international issues is a prerequisite for a closer cooperation between the two countries. The long-term relations of trust and friendliness are a good basis for the invigoration of the bilateral political and trade cooperation. This is what emerged at the meeting between President Rosen Plevneliev and King of Jordan Abdullah II bin al-Hussein.
The Head of State is on a working visit in the Hashemite Kingdom to take part in the Aqaba Process summit on extremism, migration and security in the region and in Europe together with state and government leaders from Southeastern Europe and the Middle East.
President Rosen Plevneliev and King Abdullah II exchanged views on issues on the international agenda, the situation in the Middle East and the Balkans resulting from the changed regional and global security environment. The two leaders support the idea of closer coordination of efforts and a more active exchange of information among the partners in the fight against extremism and radicalization.
During the talks the key role of the Balkan countries in curbing the migration wave towards Europe was highlighted. The need of adopting a common European approach and a more tangible role of the Middle East countries in coping with migration problems was also discussed.
