2016-02-05 08:50:00

The relations between the European Union and Mercosur, the most powerful economic organization in Latin America, were the main focus of the talks of President Rosen Plevneliev in Latin America. Bulgaria’s commitment to work toward speeding up and finalizing the EU-Mercosur agreement was highly appreciated during the visit of the Bulgarian Head of State in Brazil and Argentina.

The signing of this free trade agreement will yield serious positive results for Bulgaria, President Rosen Plevneliev said in his summary of the results of the talks held with the political leadership and business circles in the two Latin American countries. According to the statement of the Head of State, the EU-Mercosur agreement, as well as all bilateral documents signed during the official visit, will seriously boost the good performance in the area of commercial and economic cooperation. Covering a population of more than 230 million people and a GDP of about 1 trillion USD, Mercosur is the fourth biggest market following the EU, the United States and Japan.

“We have set high goals to achieve with regard to speeding up the economic cooperation. Bulgaria and the Bulgarians living in Brazil and Argentina are enjoying an exceptionally good reputation. We established good contacts and I am certain that this will bring specific results,” the Head of State commented.

Bulgaria has gained much from its proactive and principled foreign policy. We have declared our ambitious intentions to intensify the economic and political relations between the two countries and to achieve concrete results for the Bulgarian economy, is how President Rosen Plevneliev summarized the results of his visit to Latin America.
