Rosen Plevneliev: the Bilateral Trade is the Real Indicator of the Excellent Relations Between Bulgaria and Romaniarn

2015-02-20 20:17:00
President Rosen Plevneliev and representatives of the Romanian business discussed the opportunities for promoting the economic cooperation, increasing the Romanian investments and the number of Romanian tourists in Bulgaria at a meeting held in Bucharest. The Head of State highlighted the good relations between the companies from similar sectors in the two countries. The trade between Bulgaria and Romania has increased eight times and has reached 3,5 billion euros in the past years. “This growth is the real proof of the good relations and cooperation between the two countries,” the Head of State said.

Bulgaria creates favorable conditions for investments in sectors with a high added value, the President said and highlighted the information technologies, pharmacy, food industry and the production of car parts as particularly prospective. Today a lot of Bulgarian companies are suppliers of components for the car industry in Romania, the Head of State added.

Rosen Plevneliev emphasized that as EU member states Bulgaria and Romania have access to a lot of programs which ensure EU funding for joint Bulgarian-Romanian initiatives. “Therefore I call on you to be more active in implementing our common projects, which bring about a closer integration between the two countries in the transport and energy sectors,” the President told the representatives of the business circles. At the talks held in the Romanian capital the Head of State further pointed out that an agreement has been reached for the construction of two bridges over the Danube – at Silistra-Calarasi and Nikopol-Turnu Magurele. “We support the idea for building hydro-energy stations on the Danube river, which will be yet another source of energy diversification and will produce pure energy,” the President added.

The Head of State reiterated our country’s efforts to diversify the sources and routes of the transit of energy resources so as to achieve competitive prices and predictability of the supplies. The construction of a regional energy bourse is crucially important for achieving market prices, the President recalled.

During the meeting the representatives of the business circles called on for efficiently using the international exhibitions with the participation of Bulgarian and Romanian companies in sectors of mutual interest – including Romexpo, Inter Expo Center, the Plovid fair and other regional exhibitions.

The Romanian business shows an interest in implementing joint projects under the Program for Cross Border Cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania worth almost 260 million euros, which was approved a couple of days ago.
