The Head of State: the EU Symbolizes the Rule of Law and the Clear Rules which the Bulgarian Citizens Strive for

2014-05-25 12:06:00

The European Union is a symbol of peace, democracy and human development. It guarantees everything the Bulgarian citizens strive for – the rule of law and rules, not the domination of shady ties and dependencies. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev told journalists after voting for Bulgarian members of the European Parliament. The Head of State emphasized that the EU can guarantee functioning institutions which address the people’s needs, not institutions which support some group of people with shady ties.

“The European Union is our future. The legacy left by the representatives of the Bulgarian national revival is that we should be a worthy member of the European family and should be equal with all European peoples,” Rosen Plevneliev said and pointed out that Bulgaria will fail to achieve this goal if the citizens do not participate actively in these elections.

The President emphasized that he believes in the intellect of the Bulgarian citizens, who understand that the EU is a union that supports Bulgaria’s future, the future of the young people and our economy. Rosen Plevneliev was adamant  that in order to be successful, Bulgaria should have worthy representatives in Brussels which could defend the national priorities. “We should be aware that Bulgaria has always been weak when it was an isolated country. Today we have the chance to elect strong representatives in the EU, capable of defending our country’s national priorities together,” the President said.

The Head of State expressed regret that during the pre-election debate the political parties failed to clearly voice their positions on the important issues on the European agenda – the issues concerning the future of the energy and bank union, the prospects Bulgaria has to join the Euro-zone. “Nevertheless I can frankly say that this campaign could have been even more negative,” President Plevneliev further said.
