Announcement of the Press Secretariat of the Head of State on the Occasion of the Escalation of Tension in Ukraine

2014-02-19 14:57:00

On the occasion of the escalation of tension in Ukraine the Press Secretariat of the Head of State is authorized to disseminate the following announcement:

Rosen Plevneliev, Head of State, strongly condemns the outbreaks of violence in Ukraine and calls on all political leaders in the country to assume responsibility and take urgent actions to find a peaceful and democratic solution to the crisis. In January 2014 President Rosen Plevneliev postponed his visit to Ukraine planned to take place in May, which was a sign of his disagreement with the violation of human rights in the country.

The yet another escalation of tension in Ukraine which resulted in the death of tens of Ukrainians – both protesters and the guardians of public order and peace – is unacceptable for a democratic and law-governed state.

The Republic of Bulgaria calls on the Ukrainian authorities and the opposition to begin a constructive dialogue and find a political solution in order to end violence and stabilize the country. A lasting solution may be reached only if a public debate is held and a consensus on the democratic development of the country is achieved.

On his behalf and on behalf of the Bulgarian people, the President expresses his sincere condolences to the relatives and families of the victims and hopes that the wounded will soon recover.
