Bulgaria and Greece will work together within the European Union for adopting a common European approach to the inflow of refugees from the Middle East and North Africa. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev and Antonis Samaras, prime minister of Greece, agreed on at a meeting held in Vilnius, Lithuania. The two are taking part in the EU summit on Eastern Partnership, held in the capital of Lithuania.
Rosen Plevneliev and Antonis Samaras are adamant that a European solidarity is necessary to tackle the problems caused by the increased migration pressure. Prime Minister Samaras commented that the topic concerning the inflow of refugees will be among the leading issues that Greece will put on the EU agenda in the first six months of 2014, within the Greek presidency of the EU. In December the European Council is due to discuss the proposals made by the working group created by Brussels for analyzing the situation.
In the first half of 2014 the Greek presidency will also focus on the development of the region of Southeast Europe and the European integration of the countries from the West Balkans, it further became clear at the meeting held between the Head of State and the prime minister of Greece.
Today President Rosen Plevneliev will attend a ceremony on signing an Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Azerbaijan to alleviate the visa regime and a Framework Agreement between the EU and Georgia on the country’s participation in the EU operations for Crisis Management. In the presence of the state and government leaders in the EU two agreements will be signed, for associating Georgia and Moldova to the EU.
