The President: The Bulgarian citizens again showed their democratic culture

2013-06-17 12:43:00

Apart from the reform in the security sector, adequate measures to be taken by the political parties represented in the National Assembly regarding the new political crisis that occurred will be discussed at the Consultative Council for National Security scheduled for 20 June. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev told journalists in Bozhurishte at the opening ceremony of the construction of the biggest economic zone in Bulgaria Sofia-Bozhurishte. “We will discuss not only the reforms in the security sector and the appointments and the manner in which they have been made, but also the overall situation in the country and the adequate measures to recover from the crisis.  I expect that the political forces will consolidate their positions by Thursday and will come up with clear positions at the Consultative Council,” the President said.

Regarding the public protests staged in the past days, which were prompted after the appointment of the chief of the State Agency for National Security, President Rosen Plevneliev emphasized that yet again the Bulgarian citizens have shown a strong democratic culture. “By holding protests they set an example and lent a hand to the politicians. The protests are quite categorical and were provoked by a clear case so it is high time that the politicians changed their approach,” the Head of State commented. He defined the approach to the appointment of Delyan Peevski for chief of the State Agency for National Security as  “a peculiar record of the behind-the-scene policy in the transition years” and was adamant that such steps should not be taken from now on. “The people clearly stated – we want to be ruled by people with morale, who will not steal from us or lie to us,” Rosen Plevenilev recalled.

“I withdrew my trust in the government, which does not mean that I am not ready, within my constitutional powers, to work with them and support or do not hinder any reasonable idea that helps the nation move ahead in the situation we are in. Hopefully on Thursday every political party will come prepared and we will make responsible decisions not only with regard to the security sector, but also on the next measures to be taken by the Parliament,” the President added.
