Rumen Radev Stepped into Office as President of the Republic of Bulgaria

At an official ceremony, Roumen Radev stepped into office as President of the Republic of Bulgaria. At Sofia’s St. Alexander Nevsky Square, President Rosen Plevneliev and President Roumen Radev received the report of the commander of the Guard and revered the national flag. The two Presidents reviewed the formation and greeted the Guard of Honor.

It is a great honor and responsibility to me to take over the post of Head of State from President Plevneliev before all of you, before the representative units of the Bulgarian army, an army that has defended our statehood, freedom and dignity for 13 centuries.

A very difficult, yet successful term in office is over. I pursued the right course, I set the right priorities. I gave but did not take. I kept my promises. I have made mistakes as every human being but not as President, and I made no mistakes vis-a-vis the important issues. What matters in politics is not how you enter but how you leave – I am leaving holding my head up.

On the international arena, we witnessed a record number of conflicts, migrants and terror acts, a plethora of parallel crises ongoing in the region, in Europe and in the world.
