“Bulgaria and Greece are connected by a strategic partnership both in terms of bilateral relations and within the EU and NATO. The two countries are an example of good-neighborly relations in the Balkans, based on common European values.” This is what Head of State Rumen Radev said, who is on a state visit in the Republic of Greece at the invitation of his Greek counterpart Prokopis Pavlopoulos. This is Rumen Radev’s first visit to Southeast Europe since he took office as Head of State.

It is high time Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia turned over a new leaf in their bilateral relations. The complicated relations between the two countries are unnatural and do not correspond either to the historical or to the contemporary realities, or to our future goals. Offering Bosnia and Herzegovina prospects for EU and NATO membership is necessary for the whole region and is an important priority for Bulgaria. By supporting the Western Balkan countries on their road to European integration, we will contribute to ensuring peace and stability in the whole Balkan peninsula and will receive more guarantees for our common security. Bulgaria and Croatia together play a decisive role for promoting the Balkans’ European prospects, peace and economic prosperity. Deepening the bilateral relations between Sofia and Zagreb and their cooperation within the EU create an atmosphere of good-neighborly relations in the region and are an impetus for the Western Balkan countries to conduct important reforms. The visits to the Vatican on the occasion of 24 May– the Day of the Slavonic writing and culture, are a sign of the recognition of the Bulgarian people's contribution to European civilization. This is what President Rumen Radev said after being received in audience at the Vatican by Pope Francis. "His Holiness expressed his belief that the tradition of the visits of Bulgarian delegations to the Vatican is necessary and should be continued", the head of state added.
