Presidents Rumen Radev and Ueli Maurer discussed in Bern the prospects for continuing the Bulgarian-Swiss program for cooperation whereby our country receives expert and financial support in spheres such as promoting economic growth and improving labor conditions, social stability, social security, environment protection, rule of law and strengthening the civil society.

I am convinced that sooner or later Bulgaria will become a place where the young generations will want to study, work and live. In today’s global world, joint efforts are necessary to succeed in achieving a high standard and conditions of living for the next generations. This is what Head of State Rumen Radev said at a meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian community in Switzerland.

“Throughout the years many of our compatriots have sought a better future abroad. However I believe that no matter where you are, you remain forever connected with Bulgaria. I know how many efforts it took each one of you to succeed in a new land and only talented and resolute people achieve that, therefore your success in Portugal is also success for Bulgaria.” This is what Head of State Rumen Radev said, who talked with our compatriots living and working in Portugal in the Bulgarian embassy in Lisbon. The meeting was attended by teachers in the St. St Cyril and Methodius Sunday school, medical doctors, culture activists and tens of our compatriots. The legendary football player of Sporting Lisbon and Bulgaria’s national football team Ivaylo Yordanov was among the guests.

The economic and social cohesion in the EU has no alternative and Bulgaria and Portugal will continue to work to preserve the Cohesion Policy as a factor for overcoming the discrepancies in Europe. This was the stance shared by President Rumen Radev and the Prime Minister of the Portuguese Republic Antonio Costa, who held a meeting today in Lisbon. The two discussed a lot of issues on the EU agenda, among which the debate on Europe’s future, the European prospects of the Western Balkans, and the opportunities for developing the economic relations between Bulgaria and Portugal.
