Turkish businesses have expressed serious interest in investment in Bulgaria, with specific intentions being declared by large companies in Turkey’s telecommunications sector, expected to yield developments in the coming months.

Turkey has begun work on the building of a gas interconnector with Bulgaria and a decision in this respect already has been taken, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo?an confirmed to President Rosen Plevneliev today. Turkey sees as a possibility the gas connection being built as part of the course of the Nabucco West project. This would create additional opportunities to increase the capacity and possibilities of the project when implemented.

Co-operation between Bulgaria and Turkey in the fields of energy and infrastructure is of high priority. This was emphasised at a joint news conference in Ankara by President Rosen Plevneliev and his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gül. The two presidents held talks in the Turkish capital at the start of the first official visit by the Bulgarian head of state to Turkey.

“Bulgaria is part of a very dynamic region between the Western Balkans and the Black Sea, which borders the Middle East. That is why our country is interested in the processes of integration and the sharing of resources and defence in NATO and in the European Union.”
This was said by President Rosen Plevneliev in a speech today on “Current issues and priorities in the national security of the Republic of Bulgaria” to the Atlantic Club at the Sheraton Hotel Sofia.
