“For Bulgaria Romania is a good neighbor, partner and ally. The two countries intend to adopt a common approach to the key issues on the Southeast-European and EU agenda.” This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said at a joint news conference given together with his Romanian counterpart Klaus Iohannis in Bucharest. President Plevneliev is the first Head of State who is paying an official visit to Romania after President Iohannis took office. Rosen Plevneliev emphasized that the two countries have the ambition to achieve concrete results regarding energy diversification and enhancing the security of the natural gas supplies.

The creation of a European energy union will raise the political and economic integration in the EU to a new level. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said, who held talks with Maros Sefcovic, deputy president of the European Commission, in charge of the Energy Union and Miguel Arias Canete, EU commissioner for climate action and energy. The Head of State emphasized that the EU should speak in one voice on the energy issues both within the union and regarding its external partners.

“The security environment in Europe changed dramatically in 2014. We have entered a new stage of development, which I would call “cold peace.” “It is peace, because no one wants war and no one wants to go back to the period of the Cold War. This peace is, unfortunately, cold, because it uses methods which were typical of the Cold War and even of periods before that, when politics was split between the Great Powers and the marginal nations.” This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said in his statement made before the participants of the 51st Munich Security Conference.
