I am shocked and appalled by what happened at the airport in Sarafovo. I condemn all forms and terrorism and violence, which are incomprehensible and completely unacceptable to us. Bulgaria is a country where for centuries many ethnicities and religions have co-existed peacefully and in which tolerance is a fundamental value of society. This makes our shock at what happened even greater and our determination to prevent similar incidents in the future even firmer.

Bulgaria and Greece will accelerate work on the gas connection between the two countries, which is important for the energy security of the region and for which funding is already secured. The connection was one of the topics of conversation between President Rosen Plevneliev and his Greek counterpart Karolos Papoulias in Athens. Clear procedures and rules provide for transparency in the selection of members of the Supreme Judicial Council as well as of the Prosecutor-General. Equally important, however, are the criteria to ensure that only proven professionals and worthy representatives of the judiciary may be elected to key positions. This was agreed at a meeting today by President Rosen Plevneliev and Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev.
